Artist's Description

This woodcut was made by reduction using two blocks and 13 colors.You can make of this what you will. It arose in me out of a rather philosophical beginning. Whether in relationships, politics, economics or whatever else you might name, the dynamic is always present seeking to balance the spectrum between what is anamorphous soft pliable following and a fixed strong forceful leadership. Both are needed and important along with everything in between, yet either has its hazards and limitations.That's the dialectic in which we live and which lives in us.

Ben Bohnsack

After a life-long experience as a do-it-yourselfer and woodworker, making practical items like furniture and toys, in 2012 Ben took a weekend workshop in woodblock printing at the North House Folk School in Grand Marais, Minnesota, with artist Nick Wroblewski. After that initial experience he has continued to learn new skills as a woodcut artist, taking his creative energies as a retired pastor into new artistic directions. More recently Ben has studied drawing and painting at Northern Michigan University and is a member of Lake Superior Art Association. He particularly enjoys subjects provided by landscapes and subjects wherever he is. Travelling in 2016 on the Rhine and Mosel Rivers he spent a relaxing hour or two each day creating...
