This 8 by 11 inch woodcut was made by reduction using two blocks and six colors.The Spanish Moss hanging in the trees in the southern part of our country is fascinating to see. Add to that the twisty spreading limbs of trees and you begin to wonder whether this print is abstract or depicts reality!
After a life-long experience as a do-it-yourselfer and woodworker, making practical items like furniture and toys, in 2012 Ben took a weekend workshop in woodblock printing at the North House Folk School in Grand Marais, Minnesota, with artist Nick Wroblewski. After that initial experience he has continued to learn new skills as a woodcut artist, taking his creative energies as a retired pastor into new artistic directions. More recently Ben has studied drawing and painting at Northern Michigan University and is a member of Lake Superior Art Association.
