This hand-printed reduction woodcut used two Shina Plywood blocks and 25 Akua Intaglio colors to produce 8 limited-edition prints on Shin Torinoko White paper. There are many rough circumstances that troubles us, but the divine and human energies around and within us are able to smooth the rough for a brighter new day! It's a hopeful transformation that unfolds with the printing of every new color or line, as with every healthy step, fresh breeze and caring conversation!
After a life-long experience as a do-it-yourselfer and woodworker, making practical items like furniture and toys, in 2012 Ben took a weekend workshop in woodblock printing at the North House Folk School in Grand Marais, Minnesota, with artist Nick Wroblewski. After that initial experience he has continued to learn new skills as a woodcut artist, taking his creative energies as a retired pastor into new artistic directions. More recently Ben has studied drawing and painting at Northern Michigan University and is a member of Lake Superior Art Association.
